25-26 School Year Updates
The first day of school is Tuesday, August 19th, and we are excited to welcome our students back! Please review the following important updates for the 2025–2026 school year.
Bus Transportation
Bus routes will be sent out as soon as possible. We are finalizing routes daily as more students enroll. Thank you for your patience as we work to ensure safe and efficient transportation for all students. If you have any transportation questions, please contact People’s Transportation at 816-539-3333.
New Missouri Law – Student Use of Personal Electronic Devices (Senate Bill 68)
In accordance with Missouri law and updates to our student handbook:
- Students may not display or use cell phones, earbuds, smartwatches, or other personal electronic devices from the beginning of the school day until the end of the school day, including during passing periods and lunch.
- Smartwatches may be worn as a watch, but may not be used for communication.
- Exceptions are allowed for students with documented medical or educational needs (IEP, 504, or physician plan).
- Violations of this policy will result in disciplinary measures consistent with the District’s Code of Conduct.
We recognize that this new law represents a change for students and families, especially in a world where technology is part of everyday life. We encourage you to talk with your child about these expectations and the reasons behind them. By working together, we can help our students build healthier, more focused habits with technology and keep the emphasis on learning.
Senate Bill 63 – Participation of Homeschool, Virtual, and Family-Paced Education Students
What is Senate Bill 63 (SB 63)?
Senate Bill 63 is a new Missouri law that allows homeschool, full-time virtual, and family-paced education (FPE) students to participate in public school athletics and extracurricular activities without being required to take public school classes. It takes effect August 28, 2025.
Who can participate under SB 63 at CCR3?
To participate, students must:
- Reside within the Clinton County R-III School District boundaries.
- Be a homeschool or FPE student who meets all MSHSAA and district eligibility rules.
- Complete tryouts (if applicable) and meet team/activity selection criteria.
- Not be under an ineligibility period from prior enrollment (12-month wait applies if left the district for eligibility reasons).
What activities are covered?
SB 63 applies to MSHSAA-sanctioned athletics and other school-sponsored activities.
It does NOT apply to:
- Prom or other school dances.
- Events or activities not sanctioned by the district or MSHSAA.
What documentation is required before participation?
Before participating in any athletic practice or competition, students must:
- Have a current physical on file (per MSHSAA guidelines).
- Complete all annual district/athletic/activity participation forms.
- Provide proof of insurance.
- Submit parent contact information for communications.
How are academic eligibility, citizenship, and conduct expectations handled for homeschool students?
- Weekly academic eligibility checks will be sent to parents.
- Student-athletes must make satisfactory academic progress.
- Failure to respond or maintain academic standards will result in ineligibility until resolved.
- Students must remain in good standing in the school community. Poor sportsmanship, disciplinary issues, or violations of district conduct policies may result in suspension or removal.
- MSHSAA rules on sportsmanship, ejections, and substance use also apply.
Are there required classes for some activities?
Yes. SB 63 removes the requirement to take public school classes in general, but if a class is essential to the activity, students must be enrolled in it.
Examples:
- Marching Band – Must be enrolled in the Marching Band class to perform.
- FFA – Must be enrolled in an Agriculture class to be a member.
- FBLA – Must be enrolled in a Business course to join.
Other similar class-based activity requirements will be communicated.
How will CCR3 communicate with homeschool participants?
ParentSquare will be the primary communication platform. All announcements and updates from coaches/sponsors will be posted there, and parents must ensure they are registered and check notifications regularly.
